The result was a six-month stint in his apartment during which he did not go out during the day. He had fallen into a deep depression after getting a divorce and having a friend die mysteriously. Although the writer managed to pull himself out of the abyss, there is still a sense of abandonment from his wife and loss of former business, friendships, and romantic relationships. He has suffered from depression and on one occasion, it was so severe that he became a recluse for six months. Like most people his age, the man has had his share of pitfalls. He is 34 years old, divorced, and working as a freelance writer. It is unclear why the author chose to give the writer no name except perhaps to make him more identifiable as an "everyman." The man is fairly typical. Murakami introduces his protagonist, a writer without a name. It is a follow up to Murakami's book "The Wild Sheep Chase." "Dance Dance Dance" by Haruki Murakami is a work of fiction. ![]()

I’m really glad to have discovered her book, overlooked and disguised between the thicker ones in my local library. ![]() This is my first experience with Jenny Diski, and I am not disappointed at all. This is Diski's only collection of short stories and, perhaps, it is because these were all she wanted to publish, so she put them all in one place. A theme, a recognizable purpose to a collection, can set one apart. They're all good and interesting- there truly was not a single story in the twelve that was bad or unwarranted- but ultimately it was a collection of stories for the sake of having a bunch of them in one place, or so it seemed. The stories are varied in subject matter and style and theme. Diski is well-known for her sheer talent and quality, and this book only underscores that. Though new to me, I found it was easy to wade into her stories, following her characters and choices, as though she were a writer I'd reach much more of, whose style and devices I recognized. I've never read any fiction from her before this, and as I began reading this short story collection I was happily surprised at how familiar her writing seemed. ![]() I don't think that anything I have to say in that regard will add to what you can already read in the many reviews of her writing in tons of publications. ![]() ![]() ![]() I also like books about life in the White House. The physical man is only an instrument of which the real inner man or soul expresses itself in the physical universe. Regardless, the boy learns that his family is not the safe-haven he thought they were. ![]() Perhaps the reason the Eddie's legacy haunts the boy is that his family doesn't want to talk about it, which means that Eddie's legacy is in jeopardy (which is a common theory about ghosts, that they return to help manage their legacies). It's as if the boy is being haunted by Eddie's ghost, because the boy experiences a spiritual conviction about Eddie's death, eventually discerning that Eddie was innocent. Suddenly, we see that Eddie (a named character) means more to the boy (an unnamed character) than just family trivia. An interesting thing happens when the reader decides to take her suggestion and view the novel as a ghost story. The mother's argument to her son is that he should view the world in terms of spiritual energies, like demons and ghosts are literally haunting us in unseen ways. ![]() Written by people who wish to remain anonymous We are thankful for their contributions and encourage you to make your own.
